Josh Spilker – Update!
Josh Spilker is a man, a myth, and a legend around these parts of the inter webs. To head up some fancy literary blog (Deckfight) and write a full book (ambient Florida position) takes a lot of courage and time. Most people can’t even do one of those things, forget two. Well, it seems that Josh will be giving speeches for this book. A lecture series entitled “Life Imitating Art: You Never Know If It’s True Until It Happens To You” will be presented to countless audiences throughout the United States.
You see, in Josh’s book, the main character is let go. I mentioned in my initial review that losing one’s job has the emotional response of a death in the family. That’s been proven. Josh lost his job. Not only had that happened losing his job happened to follow the very sequence of events that he described in his book. Hence he will have some free time. At least losing his job happened to be pretty well written so that’s a bonus. If you’re feeling blue or worried for Mr. Spilker, may I suggest buying his book? More than ever he could use your help during this difficult time. Literary blogs can only ease the pain of unemployment so much. Simply ask me, I’ve been unemployed for a long time with only my blogging credit keeping me going, alongside various blog recycling programs.
Since it appears life has been imitating art lately, let me write a little fiction about my potential future life. This may help ease Josh’s pain and may help me achieve my goals.
“Beach Sloth sat in a chair, different from the chair you are sitting in now. He was eating Mac and Cheese for the fourth day in a row. Part of him wished he had more money, to afford a higher quality Mac and Cheese besides “Best Choice’s” own generic brand that had some sickening cheese sauce which barely qualified as food.
“Are you Beach Sloth?” an old man asked.
“Yes” Beach Sloth replied.
“Well, you’ve won one million dollars in the blog writer awards (please at this time click the actual button for this on my blog in the upper right hand corner).”
“Are those crappy blog dollars, or are they real dollars which can be exchanged for goods and services?” Beach Sloth asked the old man.
They were real dollars. Overnight Beach Sloth had acquired a vast sum of actual money, not just blog street cred. His parents were proud that his obsessive habit of writing about literature and music had finally paid off. Finally, after so long, Beach Sloth could afford to marry (insert romantic love interest here).
At Beach Sloth’s wedding the Doobie Brothers played their hit album “Minute By Minute” to all of Beach Sloth’s relatives, from Teach Sloth to Peachy Sloth to Nietzsche Sloth. Josh Spilker was there for some reason, probably because he was unemployed. So was Tao Lin. Tao Lin hired Josh for an important job. Tao Lin flabbergasted everyone by revealing his secret identity: Santa Claus. And Josh got a great job dressing up as a reindeer and distributing presents to all the good little boys and girls.”
Please support Josh. He needs your help. And he may not make an extremely convincing reindeer (I took some creative liberty with that part. Tao Lin really is Santa Claus though.)
